MoU signed to preserve Makli monuments bise ... - Pakistan Education

HYDERABAD, Feb 11: The government to protect and document a world heritage site has entered into an agreement with a relative foundation. The site has been declared by Unesco as one of the two sites of world heritage in Sindh and is situated in Makli. The deal includes capacity building of the
officers of archaeology and museums.

A memorandum of understanding in this regard was signed between the Sindh Culture Department and the Heritage Foundation at the National Museum Karachi on Saturday.

The two sides agreed to preserve and document the monuments of Samma Dynasty which ruled Sindh and parts of Punjab and Balochistan from 1335-1520 AD, with their capital at Thatta before being replaced by the Arghun Dynasty. It left its mark in Sindh with magnificent structures including the necropolis of kings and royalties in Thatta and Makli.

The Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Foundation Yasmeen Lari and Secretary Culture Abdul Aziz Uqaili signed the MoU while the event was presided over by the Minister for Culture Sassui Palijo, said a press release issued by the Culture Department.Ms Palijo expressed her resolve to keep preservation and protection of historical and archaeological sites as the highest priority of the department.

Previously, the sites were under the federal government but now these have been handed over to provincial government and the department would take utmost care to preserve these sites and was working on development schemes. Dawn
