Dispute divides Southwest Florida program in two

Inside the PDL

The Premier Development League is a 23-under division under the larger United Soccer Leagues, which oversee a huge contingent of teams nationwide from youth to professional. The PDL consists of 73 teams, divided into four conferences, which play eight home and eight away games each season, as well as the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and several exhibitions. The PDL allows collegiate and post-high school players a higher level of competition while maintaining their eligibility. Requirements to join the league, as listed by PDL Senior Director Jeff McRaney and the USL website, include:
? A typical $100,000-200,000 franchise fee
? A business plan, showing plan to acquire sponsors and create revenue
? Proof the franchise can sustain three years of operations within the PDL
? A venue which meets the PDL?s criteria (which are not public)
