What You Must Know About SCUBA Equipment | Silver and Spice

If you are thinking about learning how to dive, then you will need to know about the scuba equipment used for the type of diving you want to do. The best thing that you can do, especially if you are a novice, is to only attempt things that you know how to do until you get better. Understanding the fundamentals of scuba diving usually begins with locating a certified teacher to begin giving you lessons.

Similar to school, the diving instructor must give you a basic competency test that you need to pass. Comprehending everything that you are being shown taught me not to give in the first time which may require you to ask questions. By the end of your training, you will realize how much scuba equipment you will actually need and the devices that will help you the most.

There are two basic types of equipment configurations involved with scuba diving. The reason that you are diving, and the conditions as to where you are will determine what equipment you will need.

For recreational divers, the open circuit set up is the most common. Most rebreather configurations are similar to semi closed circuits and ones that are completely closed. Closed circuits were the initial type which were later replaced, or at least used more, by open circuits. The difference between a open circuit and a closed-circuit apparatus is that when the diver breathes back into the equipment, the exhaled gas converted to something that you can breathe once more. The configuration called the ?double-hose? demand valve became the standard set up and had the distinction of being the first in mainstream use. Although Cousteau started his design with just one tube, that didn?t work well and he had a second tube added. This large valve assembly was attached at the top of the cylinder pack, usually with an A-Clamp. The twin tubes were used for breathe inhalation and the other for exhaust, or exhalation. When the equipment was in the design stages, special factors had to be addressed to ensure the equipment would operate safely. For instance, the exhalation tube needed to be in close proximity to other devices to prevent gas from flowing without restriction.

Due to the fact that it is so important to have water buoyancy, scuba divers use weights to help maintain the equilibrium. Buoyancy in the water can sometimes be attained by adding around 5 to15 pounds of weight to your wetsuit. The reason that you want to do this is because the buoyancy provided by the diving equipment needs to be balanced by additional weight.

There is some skill involved with attaining the desired level of buoyancy which is neutral to just negative. Utilizing lead as the weight, divers not too long ago had to place blocks of lead on their belts to achieve buoyancy. Naturally, design improvements have lead to use of lead shot contained in nylon bags. Whether you decide to use nylon bags, or lead weights, always try to find your buoyancy rather quickly.

There are some aspects of diving that involve complex scuba equipment. Dry suit diving, and cave diving, have become very popular over the last few decades requiring more special gear to be manufactured. Specific situations that involve the military and industrial complex clearly show that scuba diving does have some other purposes. Scuba diving is a fascinating sport that can provide many years of constant learning and exciting experiences.
